Stephanie Genkin, CFP®  is the founder of My Financial Planner, LLC,  a New York State Registered Investment Advisor.  She offers a common sense, jargon-free educational experience people find refreshing.  Her approach is 100% client-centered-- never product-oriented.

What sets Stephanie apart from other advisors is her passion for providing affordable financial guidance for every level of income and net worth (either per hour or per plan).  She is completely independent, fee-only and a fiduciary.  

Stephanie earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation after completing the financial planning program at NYU. She is also a Certified Financial Therapist (CFT-1), Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA®) and a Certified Divorce Specialist (CDS™), helping people navigate their finances during one of the most vulnerable and emotionally-charged times in their lives. She also holds certifications in behavioral finance and life coaching. Stephanie received a graduate certificate in Financial Life Planning from Golden Gate University and is studying to qualify to become a Certified Financial Transitionist (CeFT).

A veteran journalist, Stephanie is the financial planner behind the Yahoo! Finance digital makeover series Fix My Finances and is frequently quoted in the media (Forbes, USA Today, Huffington Post, Yahoo! FinanceBusiness Insider, Teen Vogue, Martha Stewart WeddingsAARP, among others). 

Stephanie is an adjunct instructor at NYU's School of Professional Studies and teaches investing fundamentals and Golden Gate University’s Graduate Financial Life Planning Program. She also offers lively personal finance classes at Brooklyn Brainery and has been featured in the 92nd Street Y Money Matters lecture series. Companies, nonprofits and other groups in the New York City metro-area engage her services to facilitate personal finance workshops for their employees and members.

Before training to become a financial advisor, Stephanie was an editorial producer at CNN for 15 years and worked with the network's Chief Business Correspondent. She holds a B.A. with honors in Journalism and Hebrew Literature from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and received master’s degrees in Modern Jewish History and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Oxford, St. Antony's College in the U.K. She was a Fulbright scholar in Amman, Jordan.
